The Monkey and The Crocodile
Once upon a time, in a beautiful forest, there was a river that flowed gently. On the banks of the river, there was a big tree full of sweet, juicy mangoes. A clever monkey lived on that tree, and every day he would eat the delicious mangoes.
One day, a crocodile came swimming by. He looked up and saw the monkey enjoying his mangoes.
Crocodile: "Hello, Mr. Monkey! Those mangoes look very tasty. Can I have one?"
Monkey: "Of course, Mr. Crocodile! Here, catch!"
The monkey threw a mango down to the crocodile.
The crocodile loved the mango. It was so sweet and yummy that he came back the next day.
Crocodile: "Mr. Monkey, can I have another mango today?"
Monkey: "Sure! Here you go!"
The monkey gave the crocodile more mangoes every day, and soon they became friends.
One day, the crocodile told the Monkey that his wife lived on the other side of the river and he wanted his wife to taste the sweet mangoes. The generous monkey plucked many mangoes and gave them to the crocodile to give to his wife.
Crocodile's wife, Crocodilia, loved mangoes so much that she thought a monkey's heart would taste even sweeter.
Crocodilia said "Bring me the monkey’s heart! It must taste even better than these mangoes!"
Please, Crocodilia," he pleaded. " That monkey is my best friend. But Crocodilia was stubborn. She insisted that she would leave him if he didn't bring the monkey’s heart. Crocodile was heartbroken. He loved his wife, but he also loved friend Monkey.
The crocodile unwillingly complied with his wife's request.
He spent hours trying to figure out a plan. Next day, he went to the Monkey and said
"Mr. Monkey, would you like to come to my house for dinner? My wife would love to meet you."
Monkey: "That sounds nice, but how will I get across the river?"
Crocodile: "You can ride on my back! I’ll take you safely."
The monkey trusted his friend and climbed onto the crocodile’s back. They started crossing the river. But halfway across, the crocodile couldn’t keep the secret any longer. He said: "I’m sorry, Mr. Monkey, but my wife wants to eat your heart!"
The monkey was shocked, but he was clever. He quickly thought of a plan.
Monkey immediately replied "Oh no! Why didn’t you tell me before? We monkeys usually leave our hearts safely on the tree. Now we will have to go back to the tree to get my heart. Hurry, take me back to the tree."
The silly crocodile believed the monkey and turned around to go back to the tree. As soon as they reached the riverbank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back and quickly climbed up the tree.
Monkey: "You silly crocodile! How can someone keep their heart out?
My heart is right here inside me!
I trusted you as a friend. And now, I won’t give you any more mangoes!"
The crocodile felt very ashamed and sad.
From that day on, the crocodile and the monkey were no longer friends. The monkey stayed safe in his tree, and the crocodile learned a valuable lesson.
