About Us
Why did I start a value based storytelling website?
It all began with the birth of my little princess. And my experience as an Engineer working in R&D for a top-notch Brain Research Organization along with some of the best in class Neuroscientist & Neuropsychologist also helped.
Though the thought of setting up a value based standard for my child got conceived with the inception of motherhood; it was the strong conviction of the Neuroscientists that stories stimulate the brain and even impact the way we react to situations in life which made me take up the art of value-based storytelling.
What is the need for a value based storytelling website?
Interacting with the kids of this generation somewhere gave me the realization that children are becoming more materialistic and judgmental at a very young age than the previous generations. There are increasing bullying cases in schools these days. Children are judged and made fun of, based on the clothes they wear, the cars their parents drive, the houses & locality they live, gadgets, how they spend their vacations, etc. There are increasing cases of depression among school going children. Children are failing to understand the love and limitations of their parents. It is high time we do something positive to rekindle humanity that is fading away with the complexities of modernization.
In this fast-paced world, good storytelling is an interactive and fun way to spend quality time with your kids that can help strengthen the parent-child bonding.
How did I start Liz Story Planet?
Well, I was convinced about the logic of Neuroscience emphasizing on the long-lasting & recalling effect of Story Telling in our day to day lives. But easier said than done, how do I implement it for everyone was the conundrum.
I had never made a website before nor did I have any technical know-how about developing one. Other than adding few effects, image cropping and making frames with simple mobile apps, I had no clue about image editing and its tools. I was also completely unaware of internet laws. Moreover, having moved down to a new city I didn’t have any contacts to guide me on its commencement.
All thanks to Google, I literally browsed on the process of creating & maintaining a website namely – deciding on the website development platform, domain name, hosting & securing the site, the rules and regulations, image editing tools to use, etc.
For all this research, I had to squeeze in time between the daily household chores and my lovely toddler who always kept me on my toes. Luckily, I use a lot of creative ideas from my husband on weekends. To be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of rekindling the right hemisphere of my brain.
Gradually, as I started getting a hang of the tools and technologies, I joined a full-time job. Now, I literally have to create extra time between my toddler, household chores and a full-time job. But I really look forward to this time which has become my passion now. And the thought of doing my small part to make this world a better place gives me a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
Which methodology is the best?
Haven’t you experienced how we feel more engaged when we hear stories or narrative about events than a powerpoint presentation with some bullet points? Exactly.
According to Neuroscience, this is because facts and theories just stimulate Broca’s and Wernicke's area of the brain, whereas stories stimulate motor, auditory, olfactory, somatosensory and visual sensory areas of the brain together with Broca’s and Wernicke's ( language processing ) area.
Listening to or reading a story is way more beneficial than watching a video on the same as the child while listening or reading the story imagines the characters, their expressions, the situation, places, etc. on his visual cortex. Even twins listening to the same story envisions the characters and places differently. Thus, apart from imbibing good values, storytelling also unleashes & blossoms the imaginative and creative power in a child.
Liz story planet started as an effort to carefully pick and collect stories with good moral values that help to inculcate good values and virtues in children.
Over the years, the great philosophers and thinkers have given us wide varieties of stories, fables, folktales and real-life incidents. These stories not only just teach good moral values but also to have a deep-rooted commitment and ability to reason out and stand firm in different situations in our journey of life.
Who all are benefiting?
Storytelling is also a two-way process where you too can become a better person in the process of bringing up your child. A heartfelt letter written by Indian Industrialist and Infosys Co-founder Narayana Murthy to his daughter is worth a read for every parent.
“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family” – Mother Teresa
The world that we live in today is instinctively the people around us. Virtuous individuals make an exemplary family which in turn creates a harmonious & civilized society that goes on to make a strong nation & finally a better world to live in.
We often underestimate the power we have as parents and teachers in building a better generation. A generation of good human beings. You just need the perfect tool to guide the children in the right direction.
Though we live in a fast-food world we need to understand that a child is not a 2-minute noodle.
It takes attention, perseverance & effort to bring up a great human being.
Let’s love our children, love our families and join hands to create a positive difference to our world. Let’s create a world that resonates love, peace, kindness and joy. Our children are our future. We can’t expect a better world for our kids by sitting on the sidelines. We need to plant positive seeds to our children’s mind and give it proper care and nourishment. The positive ripples they create can become waves of positive changes in this world.
